When you create a new wallet in Zerion, you’ll be prompted to back it up by saving a 12-word recovery phrase (also known as a seed phrase).
Backing up your wallet is extremely important, this recovery phrase is the only way to regain access if you lose your device or forget your password. If you haven’t backed up your recovery phrase yet, we strongly recommend doing it now using one of the secure methods below.
🔥 Why Your Recovery Phrase Matters
Your recovery phrase gives full access to your wallet. If someone else gets it, they can steal your funds.
Zerion does not have access to your recovery phrase. It is self-custodial, and if lost, we cannot help recover it.
What Not to Do
Avoid storing your recovery phrase digitally, these methods are risky and can expose your wallet to theft:
Don’t take screenshots or photos of your recovery phrase
Don’t save it in email drafts, notes apps, or on your computer
Don’t type it into untrusted devices, apps, or websites, watch out for phishing scams
Don’t share it with anyone, not even the Zerion team (we’ll never ask for it)
Safe Ways to Store Your Recovery Phrase
You have two main options for backing up your recovery phrase. Choose the one that fits your needs, or use both for extra security.
📝 Manual Backup
Write it down using pen and paper
Store it in a secure, private location—somewhere only you can access
For even more durability, consider a steel backup (plate or capsule), which can withstand fire, water, and physical damage, ideal for long-term storage
