Keep those 12 magic words safe

Updated yesterday

When creating a wallet, Zerion generates a 12-word recovery phrase. This recovery phrase (also known as a seed phrase) is crucial because it is the only way to restore access to your wallet if you lose your device or forget your password.

If someone else gains access to your recovery phrase, they can access your wallet and steal your funds. Therefore, keeping it secure is paramount.

  • Zerion does not have access to your recovery phrase. It is self-custodial, and if lost, we cannot help recover it.

  • Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, including Zerion team members.

Avoid These Risky Practices

First, please avoid the following methods, as they are extremely risky and can make your recovery phrase vulnerable to hackers and malware:

  • Taking screenshots or photos of your seed phrase.

  • Storing it on your computer or any digital device.

Safer Storage Options

Here are some safer ways to store your recovery phrase:

  1. Write It Down:

    • Write your recovery phrase on a piece of paper.

    • Store the paper in a safe place, such as a safety deposit box.

    • Consider splitting the phrase into different parts and storing each part in separate secure locations.

  2. Use a Steel Plate or Capsule:

    • Purchase a steel plate or capsule designed to store your recovery phrases

    • These options are durable and can withstand extreme conditions, such as high temperatures.
