Reasons You May Be Paying Fees on the ZERϴ Network

Learn why you might see fees on the ZERϴ Network, how free transaction limits work, and what to do if you’ve reached them.

Updated this week

Transactions on the ZERϴ Network are sponsored by Zerion and typically free. In some cases, you may see fees, here’s why.

Reason 1: You’re Not Using Zerion Wallet

Free transactions are only available when you use the Zerion Extension or the Zerion mobile app. If you’re using another wallet, install Zerion and import your existing wallet to start transacting fee-free on ZERϴ network.

Reason 2: You’ve Reached Your Free Transaction Limit

Each wallet gets a certain number of free transactions. After that, fees apply until your allowance recharges.

Why is there a limit?

Gas fees help prevent spam and abuse. While L2s lowered costs, they also made spam easier. To solve this, ZERϴ uses Onchain DNA, a system that ensures free transactions go to real users, not bots.

How is the limit set?

Onchain DNA checks your wallet balance to determine eligibility:

  • Balance across all chains: for initial free transactions

  • Balance on ZERϴ: for subsequent free transactions

What happens when you reach the limit?

  • You can still transact, but a small fee (in ETH) will apply.

  • Free transactions recharge over time based on your ZERϴ balance.

  • You can bridge more funds to ZERϴ network to get free transactions faster.
